Princess of Mars by natebaertsch Princess of Mars by natebaertsch
WOW this is old, and still unfinished...
You know you're a pathetic artist when you find yourself digging up old unfinished projects and posting them.

I liked where this was going, however I think for me to finish it, I'd start all over. New poses, new designs, everything. Might keep the sky, Like what the sky was doin'.

I've got another John Carter of Mars inspired piece somewhere that hails back to when I did this one, I'll have to continue in my pathetic-ness and post it here soon also. :)

This is a beautiful piece and I just LOVE that Dejah is clothed! I know she wore less in the books but the movie and this piece shows she can still be beautiful with clothing!

Thanks for the feedback. We definitely agree. :)

that, IS john carter. amazing dejah by the way, maybe the most gorgeous dejah that i've seen.
maybe someday I can also color like that.

Wow, thanks!

I love this picture. The stilization of faces and anaomies is stunning and inspiring. I can't consider it 'John Carter' because well, they're clothed. And if you read the novel the nudity is stressed at every occasion so I can only frown on ditching that element (seriously, what's so bad about nudity anyways...)

Taken away from that context and by itself, I can only love the picture, and keep it as reference for my future work.

damn, I wish I was as pathetic as you then

the sword is transparent and you maybe wanted to lose the contour lines
but they are fine, they give that kinda sketchy feel
great work buddy

So, natebaertsch, what do you think?
natebaertsch Featured By Owner Jul 25, 2011
I think it looks great! Very excited for this movie.

It's hard to believe that this piece is " unfinished ". I find that HARD TO BELIEVE. I see some great detail in there, but, as ~Coluber said, " the girl is overdressed ! ". Other than that, I'm LOVING this piece !

Very nice.

Love Dejah's headpiece. Strange thing to notice, I suppose, but it looks both ornamental AND practical, which is hard to pull off

Thanks all!

@ Tarzman, I agree with your complaint. The full image actually showed Woola below and the two moons above, but they never got done, so yeah, I cropped it, and cropped it bad. I do enjoy this piece, but I see it more as a concept of what I'd do on a real PoM piece. I'd change up their poses and everything. So to verbosely answer your question, no I didn't intend this crop for the full image. :)
Tarzman Featured By Owner Jul 27, 2010
This is quite nice. One complaint though, I fell like I'm not seeing the whole thing, their feet are cut off. Did you intend this?
Boyann Featured By Owner Jul 27, 2010
1. completely un-necesarry calling yourself 'pathetic'. Sends wrong message

2. beautiful painting, in the spirit of the propper imagining of Barsoom world and people

Great work! This is about how I see John Carter and Dejah Thoris! Very well done!

I like it. I agree that Mr. Carter could be in a more dynamic pose, but don't sell yourself short this is awesome.

Thanks Mike!

In spite of the undeniable awesomeness of this painting (which you should have exposed sooner), my crasser, smutty, half must say this: the girl is overdressed! But the dress is well drawn , I must admit. Is that Martian silk?
Grythak Featured By Owner Apr 1, 2010
This is up and by far one of the best (top 5) John Carter of Mars pieces on DeviantArt.
